Did They Forget About the Macaroni Grill? Herndon, Not Reston, One of The Best Places for the Rich and Single

What, with its swinging singles scene and the dude who will let you learn how to pick up chicks by living with him in his Reston Town Center condo, you'd think Reston would have developed a "rep," as the kids like to say, as a place for the single to mingle.

Not so. Money magazine just released its list of the "best places for the rich and single," and Herndon came in eighth in the country. Wait, what?

We'd understand if Herndon was on a list of best places for Minutemen to meet Minutewomen, but this is ridiculous. Here's what they have to say about our tolerant neighbor to the west:

You're likely to snag a tech whiz in Herndon: AOL, Accenture, Oracle, Microsoft and Verizon all have offices nearby in the area known as the Dulles Technology Corridor. Flirt with gym buffs at the health club or meet a fellow music fan at a jazz bar. On any given night at the local bars, you might encounter a trivia game, open mic night, a poker tournament or DJs and dancing.
By way of "proof," Money chose this exciting photo to showcase Herndon's swinging singles scene:

Wow. We stand corrected. It's kind of like Studio 54 in the 1970s, only substituting the rope line for an American flag.

Things could be worse, though. At least Ashburn wasn't on the list. But Arlington was ranked #2 for rich singles, though that's most likely for its gangsta cred.

Wow. Whodathunkit? And to think that we left the Town of Herndon for Reston 30 years ago.

No matter. I suggest that you buy a place along Alabama Drive, preferably closer to the Middle School. Then, when you're tired of all of that singles life, like bars and poker and karaoke, or if you wind up unemployed during this economic downturn, you can hang out with the amigos by the 7-11 and maybe pick up some extra work while you're at it.

  2. Do single women live in Northern VA? Every where I go, I see more men than women. At work, more men. At the gym, more men. Took a swing dancing class, more men. Arlington bars, more men. It raining men in this area. How can you be a great singles town with such a high ratio of men to women?

There must be a lot of primping and preening in Reston too. We have enough demand for 2 barbers, 3 hair salons, and 1 nail salon at Lake Anne.

  4. Reston - a total sausage fest.

  5. Herndon?? I was unaware there was a bar scene. Maybe we'll be the Adams-Morgan of the silver line soon...

  6. How funny is that! I'm laughing partly because I took the photo of the charming old house in Herndon that was featured in the article (I shot it for the Town calendar). Although I live in Reston, I like Herndon and the people who call it home (most are not xenophobic). But the place is certainly no swinging singles the relief of the many families that live there.

  7. A singles scene? In Herndon??? Is there even a club there- even one? Or a bar? I am mystified.

  8. I'm laughing so hard I'm about to wet my pants. Good Lord if Herndon is a swinging singles model then no wonder I'm still depressed that I left Dallas.

  9. There actually is a "club" in Herndon. It's called So Addictive, but to me it looks mostly scary. And they charge a cover. On a Wednesday. Usually if I'm out socializing in Herndon it's with friends at Jimmy's, Ned's, Carpool or at FNL. They're all actually decent spots. But they're not clubs. I think Breaker's and Ned's have DJs on the weekends...
