Flashback Monday: Reston's Jurassic-Era Park

Set the controls of the Earth-Toned Wayback Machine to 1974, where through the magic of Super 8 and the YouTubes, we get to see the excitement of two kids visiting what was then apparently called the "Pet-a-Pet Farm Park." It was a more innocent era, decades before the recent unpleasantness at the same site.

Marvel as "Jim and David" sit atop a giant turtle! Watch a buffalo work on a salt lick! There's a lion! And a sad-eyed chimp being taunted with a can of soda!

But most amazing of all:

Park
Yep, it's the park before it was surrounded by vinyl-clad McMansions, the end.

Shout-out to Confidential Restonian Operative "Jon" for bringing this to our attention.

  1. Hmm. Wallabies seem to be conspicuously absent.

  2. That peacock was the most flamboyant display of male sexuality in Reston history, before the first motorcycle arrived at Jackson's.
