Where 3-13 Is In: Metaphors Abound As Disgraced Redskins Coach Graces Reston Town Center For Final Sammich

ImagesHere's the kind of viral marketing ersatz downtowns across the country would kill for: Almost immediately after his inevitable, yet pathetic, firing as the coach of the Redskins, Mike Shanahan (reportedly) dropped by Reston Town Center for lunch. Having (reportedly) just picked up a $7 million golden parachute, did he stop by Morton's for a final meal of Kobe truffles braised in the tears of minimum-wage servers? Not quite.

Shortly after leaving Redskins Park for the last time, recently unemployed coach Mike Shanahan decided to have his farewell lunch at one of our area's finest eating establishments.

It seems that Shanahan went from Ashburn to Reston, where he apparently stopped by Potbelly for a sandwich. (Full disclosure: Potbelly is delicious and their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are to die for.)
Yes, Potbelly has a sandwich they call a "wreck," which seems kind of appropriate, but we'll just point out that Reston Town Center seems to have a special connection with career-ending moves by Redskins and leave it at that.

Oh, and no word on whether his son, Kyle, placed the sandwich order. (We hear that's a good "foot ball" joke.)

  1. At least I went for the top-shelf stuff when *I* was hanging out in RTC, not some $4.99 sandwich.

    1. Hey, Lard Butt. Unlike you, he only got $7,000,000 for early termination on his contract. I suspect before long, he's going to have to clip coupons as well.

  2. In the Native American-skins halcyon days, the linemen Shanahan wished he could have had were called, "The Hogs." I trust he ordered pork.

  3. I wonder why he didn't stop by the Lake Anne Village Center....oh wait, that place is a dump where no one wants to go...nevermind.

    1. Ah, a new year, and a new troll intent on trashing Lake Anne. Some things never change...

  4. And speaking of disgraces, did you notice that the MWAA in their infinite wisdom, decided to clear and treat the less used Access Highway BEFORE they even got started on the DTR?

I guess airport traffic is sacred but commuters, well, you just pay the bills.

    1. Bastids!

We should install entrance tolls at all DTR Reston exits for all non-Reston residents. Make them also a buck each.

We should also start charging the MWAA a carbon tax for funneling airport, Loudoun and Herndon polluters through our little paradise.

      Viva la revolucion!

  5. I saw him January 2nd getting into a Dulles Airport cab, so perhaps that was not his 'final meal' in the area....

  6. You mean just like restonian trashes the RTC all year long with his "gritty urban core" ,"ersatz" and "fake downtown" comments?

  7. L'Ersatz sounds like a mesmerizing moniker for yet another high-rise of the chateaux des chi-chis. Natch, it should be fitted with Himalayan salt saunas and craft brewery emporia...
