Flashback Monday: Land Before Tyvek

Mediterranean Ct.jpg

This v. v. exciting photo shows us Reston's Mediterranean Villa Cluster rising from the primordial ooze on the hills above Lake Anne. Now that we're accustomed to seeing prefab particleboard Ashburn-style dreck pop nearly fully formed from the ground wrapped in pearly-white Tyvek, this dark-hued siding seems exotic, almost scandalous:

Jet-Age Materials.jpg

(BTW, we tried to Google "Dierks Intermediate," and the closest we got to understanding what this miracle jet-age material was is this: "Mischung zur Herstellung eines Bindemittels und Verfahren zu ihrer Verwendung." Well, duh.)

  2. "Mischung zur Herstellung eines Bindemittels und Verfahren zu ihrer Verwendung." is Chinese for "Just watch we're going to sell this diseased drywall to those dumb Americans."

  3. All that German sounds kinda dirty. Bindemittels, indeed.

  4. Who's that person sitting on the pile of dirt in the left side of the photo? I wonder it's the future homeowner?

  5. Was this an early part of the Bundeswehr's plan to invade Reston?
