On the YouTubes: A TV News Video Containing No Actual News

After Monday's incident on the trails near Dogwood Elementary, one of the local teevee stations decided to send a camera crew to this "Reston" place a few days later because it took them that long to find it on a map, plus look under the sofa cushions to find some quarters to pay the tolls for the Action News Van.

Please to be enjoying what may be the most news-free news segment we've seen in a long time, with the exception of learning that Reston is "filled with bike paths." Who knew? Better yet, the written article accompanying this fancy video identifies Dogwood as "Woodson Elementary," so um, yay, Experienced Journalists, the end.

In fact, a tv news video containing actual news would actually be...news. Not that this is unique to the Washington region, but the dumbing down of local newscasts is becoming pathetic. Fox5 at times seems to be nothing more than a shill for American Idol. Channel 7/WJLA finds the money to send its resident fashionista with the piercingly shrill voice to cover the royal wedding -- gee, thanks, never would have know about the event otherwise -- and the last taping of Oprah. How about some serious coverage of serious local issues instead? No wonder they're losing audiences as well as relevance.
