On the YouTubes: Another 4 Minutes, 57 Seconds You'll Never Get Back

Hooray, the Reston Association's monthly "vi-deo" for the month of September has been posted on the YouTubes! Andy Sigle's soothing dulcet tones are back, as are random shots of green hard hats and something called "galvilum." But that's not all! There's talk about August's uneventful RA board meeting, newcomers night, where you can "meet your covenants staff," and something about the whazzitcalled, stream restoration, including astonishing video of a tree that wasn't cut down, but preserved by the amazing space-age technique of pouring some dirt over its exposed roots.

And is if that isn't enough, there's a bonus segment about Reston Association covenants and you. The more you know... the more you know.

  1. the chick in the bonus video is not bad, she can tell me about covenants anytime she wants, can't say the same about the cast in the feature presentation

  2. As cheesy as these videos are, at least they are SOMETHING. They are trying. Vienna gov't (where I live now but will be moving to Reston next month) is pretty invisible, at least online. I know, apples and oranges... still.

  4. The lameness quotient is markedly reduced, though still present in an '80s PSA sort of way.

Don't believe anything Nikkie says. She tried to tell a Snake Den homeowner that Rolband had plant 4,000 new saplings in Snake Den Stream Valley as part of the reforestation effort after the Disneyfication was completed.

It would have been physically impossible to plant 4,000 saplings in that valley.

The more accurate count of replacement saplings planted in Snake Den is less than 100 and closer to 50.

Nothing like accurate info. from our professioanlly excellant RA staff. Not!

  5. I think it's unfortunate that these videos have become an opportunity for community members to engage in sarcastic personal attacks on "professioanlly excellant" Reston Assocation employees. They are just doing their job participating in these outreach programs. Perhaps we should give them an opportunity to go to your job and heckle you?

In engaging in such attacks, you are lowering the bar for constructive conversation about the issues at hand, and undermining your own position in the debate.

No doubt, there is value in your perspective, and potentially even a great deal of truth.. but have a little freakin' respect.

These people you are ridiculing are our employees. They work hard.

    Your comments are disgusting.

  8. They're not just our employees, they're also our neighbors.

We almost never delete comments (and scroll down a few entries to see the kinds of things we let slide), but every time we post one of these fancy RA videos, we feel compelled to zap at least one comment that's clearly over the line, even on a filthy "web log" such as this. C'mon.

  9. Dear Dave,

Once again, kudos(self-censoring)for our RA hottie Sara. You should host a Covenants Advisors hottie poll - say pitting those Columbia skanks against our most excellent Virginia belles.

    @10:45: Who's Dave?

  12. Are you saying DCRTV Dave is the shadowy figure behind this blog? Really? I never pegged him as having that much of a sense of humor.

  13. shadowy figure...Hey - where there's FILTH there's fire

  14. If an employee of mine had told a whopper as Nikki did regarding 4,000 saplings in Snake Den, she would have been fired that day.

Many of RA members are sick of the disrespect exhibited toward RA members by RA staff who can't be bothered to convey accurate information.

Whether that failure is caused by laziness or deceitfulness is somewhat irrelevant; but it poisons the relationship between staff and members and is not acceptable.

What makes you sure that Nicki was lying? Did you count the saplings? I toured one area of Reach 2 of the Glade and within that 30 to 40 ft section there were 40 to 50 saplings planted.

  17. Anon 7:25, no one over the age of 12 uses the "not" catchphrase anymore. You sound like an idiot when you write this way.

  18. YOU'RE physically impossible Anon 7:25! Hahahaha.

Also, I've been down there many times and second Anon 7:52's comment. Did ya count, 7:25? Go try it. They plant hundreds more saplings than will take to ensure that they can get as many to stick as possible. Not all of them will stay, but that's the reason for planting so many.

Per my notes from when I wrote for this esteemed blog "The March of the Hobbits" concerning WSSI's walking tour of Reach 5 in mid-April:

Mike Rolband of WSSI said his firm plants 640 trees per acre of forest disrupted by streambed restoration, although only 400 are required.

  20. Hey people chill out and be constructive, it's too easy to criticize, at least the RA folks are trying to improve our community. Give them a break
