July 26: The Day The Silver Line Opens (We Assume They Mean 2014)

Animated siren gifWHOOP WHOOP WHOOP:

Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles today announced the opening date for Silver Line service.

“We have set the opening date for the Silver Line as Saturday, July 26,” said Sarles. “The five new Silver Line stations will open to customers at noon, and the first Silver Line train will depart Wiehle-Reston East, bound for Largo Town Center, at that time.”

The announcement of an opening date follows two weeks of progress by the Airports Authority and their contractor to resolve open work items. Sarles noted that there are still remaining items — such as obtaining Certificates of Occupancy — that are expected to be resolved prior to the opening date.
Amazing what a multi-billion-dollar no-bid contract and a couple of cans of handrail paint can do!

You'd be surprised. But we'll be totally happy to not be surprised. So it is with heavy hearts that we prepare to retire this standing image:

So long, faithful friend. You'll be missed.

    1. You really think it'll make it that long? Personally, I figure the outages have already started, and the first reported one will be about four hours after opening.

  4. What a joke. And Reston has lacked proper planning so far.

All I know is that whenever it opens Wiehle Avenue traffic is going to be the definition of a clusterf***

Gotta love a reader comment that appeared in the Post's online story about the Silver Line opening:

"July 26th is a Saturday. In keeping with Metro tradition, the line is already scheduled for weekend track work. Expect delays in both directions."

  7. How fitting that, on this day in 1997, the USAF also dismissed the equally believable claims of an alien spaceship crash in Roswell, NM. Just sayin...
