Wiehle Avenue Metro Station Rising From the Ground
Please to be enjoying this photo of the Wiehle Avenue Metro station posted by our BFFs at the Dulles Corridor Metro Project. In the spirit of the holidays, we won't ask where the rad 80s art is going to go, or point out that Virginia is still hedging its bets on funding Phase 2 of the Silver Line, or that the townfolk just to our west are still all up in arms about the idea that their own station might bring development that would impact the quality of life there. Instead, we'll just say that the station is shaping up to look a lot nicer than the blocky brown boxes that characterize many of Metro's other above-ground stations, which is kind of funny, since, you know, Reston and blocky brown buildings, the end.

In addition to VA hedging its bets, the briefing on BRT from Loudoun County at yesterday's DCAC meeting (you don't care what "DCAC" means, but its the Fairfax, Loudoun, MWAA, & VA bosses)suggests Loudoun may kiss Metro goodbye as well (taking away its $268MM contribution).

ReplyDeleteIt looks like the "bird nest" stadium in Beijing.
ReplyDeleteWMAA officials have repeatedly said they don't want the Silver Line railhead on airport property.
ReplyDeleteSo if the Repulicans on the Loudoun BOS pulls out, as expected, will WMAA relent and let the turn-around yard be on Dulles ground or will the line end at Weihle.
It looks like the "sarcophagus" at Chernobyl.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, Chuck, I wouldn't mind at all if Wiehle was the End-of-the-Line. It would save the taxpayers a ton of money and it would mean that I would have a guaranteed seat in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteIsn't the whole point of WMAA's involvement - to take Metro to Dulles? Metro to Wiehle doesn't help airport business.
ReplyDeleteSure it does. It means that the Metro to Dulles shuttle will only be $10, instead of the $17 that they charge from WFC. That extra $7 should just about cover your extra TSA charges on your ticket.
