This Week in Crime: Another week, another murder

Fairfax County's fourth murder of the year took place in Reston late Saturday night, when the body of a 26-year-old Reston man was found on a bike path near Colt's Neck Road.

Police are investigating a suspected homicide in Reston.

Police were summoned to the 2200 block of Colts Neck Road on Saturday, April 18 shortly before midnight for the report of a suspicious person.

Responding officers located the body of a male, with trauma to the upper body, near a bike path between Colts Neck Road and Reston Parkway.

The victim has been identified as Jose Luis Ordones Aguilar, 26, of Reston.

A police helicopter and K-9 units were sent to the area. Detectives and crime scene technicians remained on the scene Sunday as the investigation continues.
A lively -- and only vaguely racist! -- discussion about the crime, based primarily on the victim's surname, is taking place on the Washington Post site. If the enlightened commenters there are to be believed, Lou Dobbs is a key suspect.

  1. I live in Hunter Woods Sq (legal resident hispanic from Peru), I am surprise they haven't been anymore murders in the area with all those people (ilegal immigrants with no education) moving and living in Winterthur and Spring apartments. Plus, with the trail connection into Stonegate Projects (racist and poor blacks) what do you expect. Police needs to put some night patrols (ride there bikes) in those trail. Instead of patroling in their cars for DUI at two in the mornings when most of the crimes that happen are at that time. What would also help is lights in the trails so people can see who's there.

  2. As a middle-aged middle-class white male, I comfort myself by believing that nobody will murder a middle-aged middle-class white male jogging on those same trails multiple times per week.

Interestingly enough, my son and I were out for a walk on Friday afternoon. As we were walking along Reston Parkway, I mentioned to him that, since the weather was so nice and likely to stay nice through the weekend, we could probably expect to be treated to the soft strains of the helicopters orbiting Winterthur while we tried to sleep. Afterwards, I thought that I had maybe been to harsh towards our less well-to-do ethnic brethren but chose to say nothing about it.

Not 10 minutes later, my son and I were walking along that path from Reston Parkway towards Winterthur. Once you emerged from the tunnel under Reston Parkway, you could see the lights of a bunch of police cars on Colts Neck, just below Winterthur. This was clearly no traffic stop. I stopped a couple of passersby what was going on. They said that the police were doing some anti-gang education IN TRAFFIC. There were cops down in the woods, walking and talking but none seemed concerned with us.

We didn't hear the helicopters on Friday night. I guess I was wrong about that by about 24 hours and a couple of hundred yards.
